Lunar Rhythm Gardens
Jessica Foote knew at a very young age that she wanted to be a farmer, and has been involved with farming for as long as she can remember. From keeping laying hens to dairy farming to employment as a herdsperson, Jessica lives for farming. After completing a farm business management course in 2008, she was inspired by the Community Supported Agriculture vegetable operation at Orchard Hill Farms and signed on for a 3-month internship there.
From there she returned home and shortly after that Lunar Rhythm Gardens came into being; the first season in 2009 was a resounding success! What makes Lunar Rhythm Gardens special is that it is truly supported and shared by the community. An extra special touch is that farming is done in the traditional manner with horses. Local residents purchase a share or halfshare at the beginning of the season, literally sharing both the rewards and the risks with Jessica. But the rewards far outweigh the risks and include fresh vegetables grown without any chemicals or synthetic fertilizers, and the satisfaction of knowing that you’re supporting a local farming operation. Also available, in addition to the share program, are naturally raised meats – pork, beef, chicken and turkey--free of growth hormones, government inspected and custom cut to your specification! Members are encouraged to get involved and are always welcome to visit the farm. Jessica is accepting registrations now for the 2011 season. Call or visit her website for more information.
